APPLIANCE SPENDING DOWN 2.5% LAST WEEK

By Wares February 19, 2016 Retailing

The weekly BNZ Marketview consumer spending indicator for the week ending 14 Feb has appliance spending lagging behind the market.

Consumer spending on BNZ credit and debit cards for the last 7 days (ex fuel) was +3.1% and +4% for the last 52 weeks.

While spending on appliances for the week was down 2.5% by value and down 12% by volume, the store types with the largest rises in spending included sports & camping (+18%), hardware & homeware (+12%) and department stores (+10%).

One other interesting aside was that spending on the Monday of Waitangi weekend was down on last year,  the same day last year being a working day.
