CONSUMER SURVEYS APPLIANCE RELIABILITY

Consumer recognises that value isn't the same as price in its latest appliance reliability survey.

The 2016 survey (find it here if you're a paying Consumer subscriber) of 8700+ members ranged across small kitchen appliances, whiteware, heaters and lawnmowers.

Only the results among dishwashers have been made freely available. Within this category, the most reliable brands were Miele and Bosch - only 10% of their dishwashers bought in the last 5 years needed repair, says Consumer's members.

As an aside, it may well be that these two brands will be somewhat disappointed with this level of failure.

Of the more value orientated brands, Haier and Simpson were singled out for praise as regards their reliability.

Consumer members did also however recognise the extra features of the more premium brands when it came to satisfaction, with 86% of Miele owners “very satisfied” and Bosch not far behind on 83%.

In comparison, 67% of Simpson owners and 47% of Haier owners were “very satisfied”.
