Free software update enables Alexa voice control for the Sonos One in Australia and New Zealand.

Sonos has just released a free software update that enables Alexa voice control for the Sonos One smart speaker (above) in New Zealand.

Local music fans can ask Alexa to control their Sonos home sound system with full voice support and control for Amazon Music Unlimited, Spotify, iHeartRadio, and TuneIn.

Voice controls like pause, skip, volume up and down, and asking what’s currently playing are also available for all other music services that Sonos supports.

To learn more about the Sonos One, visit or check out “The Making of Sonos One, the Smarter Speaker” on the Sonos blog.

Other Alexa news is that Fitbit owners in New Zealand can begin asking Alexa to check their progress with a new Fitbit skill for Alexa which recognises a wide range of voice-enabled requests about your Fitbit activities for any day within the previous week.

If you’re a Fitbit user, simply say, “Alexa, enable Fitbit” and link your accounts to get started.
