Canon's new EOS R full frame mirrorless system with new RF lens mount is due here in October.

The launch of the new system is a Big Deal for the Canon brand.

“The Canon EOS system has been the benchmark of imaging performance since its launch in 1987, – from entry-level to professional photographers,” says Brad Gibbons, General Manager – Consumer Imaging, Canon New Zealand.

“Today we build on that heritage with a revolutionary new system which pushes the boundaries of technology, design and innovation.”

The all-new Canon EOS R system features a new RF lens mount and there will be four compatible lenses at launch next month, all featuring a customisable control ring to which a variety of key functions can be allocated.

There will also be lens adaptors to enable the use of 70+ existing Canon lenses with the new EOS R system.

In terms of the body, Canon says it boasts super fast autofocus speeds even in low light conditions, a 35mm full-frame CMOS sensor with approximately 30.3 million effective pixels and the latest DIGIC 8 image processor, with almost every control on the EOS body customisable.

As a first for Canon’s EOS camera series, the EOS R features a customisable multi-function bar, which can also be personalised using a slide or touch motion for preferred settings such as ISO.

It will also handle 4K video of course, but there are way more technical goodies than we can describe here so visit the Canon website for more information.
