WEARABLES MAKERS SEEK HEALTHY PARTNERSHIPS
This January Fitbit teamed up with America’s National Institute of health (NIH) to launch the Fitbit Bring your Own Device (BYOD) project.
This project will form the first digital component of the All of Us Research Program described as “a historic effort to gather data from one million or more people living in the United States to accelerate research and improve health.”
Fitbit users can now sync their accounts to offer researchers key data on their sleep, heart rate, physical activity and more to contribute to the overall data of the All of US program. Fitbit is the first wearable device to be involved in the program.
Fitbit isn’t the only player venturing into the health space. Apple is also reported to be courting various Medicare companies looking to get its latest Watch Series 4 wearable (which includes ECG/EKG and fall detection) subsidised for its older users.
At least three providers are said to be currently in talks with Apple.
CASIO AND VIEWRANGER COLLABORATE
ViewRanger, the outdoor GPS app and global community for outdoor enthusiasts announced new integrations with Casio this February.
This latest collaboration brings more optimized features for CASIO Pro Trek smart, including the latest WSD-F30 model that offers improved display quality and longer battery life within the smaller body.
Users can find routes near their GPS location, and select and save more than 20 offline map styles.
The new ViewRanger app also works with iOS or can run as a standalone watch app too, meaning no smartphone connection is required after downloading offline maps and routes into a watch.
